  • Role: Study Coordinator Simvastatin & HAMLETT Study | PhD Student (Promotor: Prof. Dr. I.E.C. Sommer)

Previously, I did my BSc. in Psychobiology (University of Amsterdam) and my MSc. in Clinical Neurosciences (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam), after which I worked as a research assistant at the University Medical Center Utrecht (UMC Utrecht). Up until now, I developed a particular interest for clinical research, psychotic disorders, MRI and pharmacology.

PhD Project: Identification and Treatment of Low-grade Inflammation in Psychotic Disorders
Project description: Treatments for psychotic disorders are effective in alleviating specific symptoms in certain individuals. However, not everyone benefits from current treatment. In search of alternative treatment methods, various biological mechanisms have been associated with the development of psychotic disorders, of which low-grade inflammation may be one. My project will aim to investigate low-grade inflammation in patients with psychotic disorders and the effects of Simvastatin on the outcome of psychosis. To do so, I will investigate brain MRI scans and blood markers to identify patients with low-grade inflammation. The Simvastatin study was funded by the Stanley Medical Research Institute and my PhD will be funded by the GSMS PhD Scholarship (Open Round 2018).
