Michael Chang, ERIBA’s 2013 Vidi Laureate
“Elation and relief. Elated to have an opportunity to expand and establish my lab. Relieved that I have been judged good enough to get this opportunity.”
Michael Chang is one of the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) VIDI laureates and will receive an € 800,000 grant to develop his own innovative lines of research, and to appoint other researchers. The Vidi grants are awarded to researchers who have carried out successful research for a number of years following their PhD and who, in doing this, have demonstrated the ability to independently generate innovative ideas.
Michael’s project, entitled “Mixed up at the end”, aims at studying how telomere integrity is affected by recombination of telomeres. Inquired about what he feels about this unique venture, he said that this is “…a great opportunity to keep on asking the right scientific questions then figuring out how best to answer those questions.”
